June 25, 2009 - PRLog -- (Cary, N.C.) Business strategy expert Lea Strickland, president of international strategic business consulting firm F.O.C.U.S.(TM) Resources addressed 30 women business owners, corporate executives, and assorted professionals attending the June 23 meeting of the Business and Professional Womens (BPW) group of Raleigh.

Strickland spoke as a panelist discussing "Writing for Success," providing insight into writing to connect and inform customers and the marketplace rather than to directly "sell" products or services. Content, voice, style, and the need to connect to readers were some of the points touched-on during the interactive session which saw audience questions on self-publishing versus traditional publishing; the impact of reviews on Amazon; how to get published; and where and how to get started writing.

"As business professionals in any field we write to share our expertise and experience. Whether you are a business professional in sustainable energy, aviation, biotechnology, healthcare or general technology industry sectors, there are core elements applicable to successful writing," Strickland said.

Strickland was invited to participate partly due to her writing prowess. Having written over 600 columns and op-ed pieces on topics related to effectively starting and growing a business, she has published four books on business strategy and publishes three popular business newsletters with a combined circulation of over 18,000.

"Certainly, sitting down and doing the research and writing helps to understand an issue more fully, but I find that the feedback I get from readers across the U.S. and overseas gives me invaluable perspective," Strickland said.

Founded in 1919, BPW/Raleigh is a local organization working to obtain political, professional and personal growth for working women by empowering them through networking opportunities and educational and developmental programming.

This is the first time Strickland has spoken to the BPW/Raleigh chapter, but she has been invited back for a more in-depth discussion of writing and expert branding. In an average year, Strickland leads 40 workshops and webinars in 30 states, Canada, and Mexico on business strategy topics such as how to build and implement an effective business plan; do's and don'ts of accounting, finance, and tax structure; and how to secure government grants, in addition to many more.
