Trench Drain System, How do you build one?

There are two types of trench drainage system namely foul water system and surface water drainage system.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jun 25, 2009 – The first thing you need to do when building a new trench drainage system is to consult your local authority or the government body that is responsible for plumbing and drainage matters. You also need to inform your local building control department at your council office. You should also present a detailed plan of the work you need to undertake and have it inspected and as the work progresses; make sure it complies with the local buildings regulations.

There are two types of trench drainage system namely foul water system and surface water drainage system. Water that comes out of the kitchen, bathrooms, utility rooms, car washing areas and other such places is classified in the category of foul water system materials. While, the water that is discharged from soaks, watercourse, surface water sewers is classified as surface water drainage systems. Earlier, rainwater pipes were used to discharge the foul water drains via gully traps. But, now to stop foul air from the drains, one must ensure that foul water system is not connected to surface water drainage.

Some of the tips that must be considered while digging the trench drain system are:

•   You should ensure that you do not dig the trench too long before laying a pipe when you are installing a new drainage system.
•   Unsure you get the pipes laid as quickly as possible
•   Fill in the trench back
•   Ensure that the drainage system has been inspected and tested. The trench should be dug dip enough and may need to be supported depending on the depth and soil conditions.
•   It is advisable to support the trench irrespective of the soil type to strengthen it and prevent it from collapsing.
•   The base of the trench should be smooth, clean and free from any protruding stone matters or any other solid matter.
•   Don’t use bricks or any other hard materials to support it inside the trench. If you do so, you will damage the pipe. The bedding of the trench should be properly compacted with hollows made to accommodate the joints of the pipes
•   A continuous and uniform support for the complete should be provided as an aid to the drainage system
•   Protect this drainage system from garden activates by laying a 50mm layer of lean concrete laid 100mm above the pipe

Lastly, it is important that all parts your drainage system is designed in such a way that all part of the pipe works is accessible to a set of drain rods.
