“He has never invited a ministry on his show to fundraise for them before,” said Rhonda Gonsalves, Cross’ broadcast marketing manager. “When something like this happens, it is incredibly exciting because it means our message is getting out.”
The Hugh Hewitt Show is nationally syndicated by Salem Radio Network and appears on more than 120 stations across the country. On the show, Hewitt comments on society and politics, interviews political heavy-hitters, and interacts with listeners through the micro-blogging service Twitter. Before getting into radio, the Harvard grad worked as a ghost writer for Richard Nixon and later for the Reagan administration.
Hewitt first heard about Cross when he was in Cleveland earlier this year to do his show, which happened to be on the same day and at the same station that Cross was having a radiothon. “He was so impressed with Cross’ accountability and work, that he invited us to come on his show,” Gonsalves says.
The proceeds raised during Hewitt’s show today (Thursday, June 25) will provide care to AIDS orphans through several programs supported by Cross in Africa.
