Triangle Businesswomen To Participate In ABC News Healthcare Town Hall With President Barack Obama

Lisa Pineiro, Patty Briguglio In Washington D.C. For Wednesday’s “Questions For The President: Prescription For America”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jun 24, 2009 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two Triangle businesswomen – Lisa Pineiro, president of Technical Services Inc., a Durham, N.C.-based employment service and recruiting firm for the electrical construction industry, and Patty Briguglio, president of MMI Associates, Inc., a Raleigh, N.C.-based public relations firm – are in Washington D.C. today to participate in ABC News’ special edition of “Primetime” on healthcare with President Barack Obama.  The nationally televised event, called “Questions for the President: Prescription for America,” will be a town hall-style discussion on President Obama’s current plans to reform the U.S. healthcare system.  The event will be moderated by ABC’s Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer, and will air from the White House tonight at 10 p.m. EST.

Attendees for the discussion were hand-picked by ABC News.  Pineiro and Briguglio, both woman business owners with more than $1 million in revenues, are active members of their communities and represent individuals who have divergent opinions on the healthcare issue.  As seen during the 2008 presidential election, the town hall format discussion will feature direct questions to the President from select attendees in the audience, as well as additional questions submitted via the ABC News Web site (www.abcnews.com) and Digg (www.digg.com).

Pineiro is an active resident of the Durham community who is dedicated to building a strong base for the local workforce, specifically within the construction sector.  She led her firm to a No. 20 ranking on Business Leader magazine’s 2009 Top 100 N.C. Small Businesses list and was recently named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2009 North Carolina Small Business Person of the Year as well as one of Triangle Business Journal’s 2009 40 Under 40 Leadership Award recipients.  In 2008, Pineiro launched WOmen @ Work, a nonprofit that encourages young women to get involved in traditionally male-dominated construction careers.  Active in the community, she is a member of the board of directors for the Construction and Architectural Design Academy at Southern High School in Durham and vice president of the nonprofit Durham Careers in Construction, a group of construction professionals that educate young, at-risk, public school students about the wide array of lucrative careers in construction.

MMI Associates, Inc. is ranked among the top four PR firms in the Triangle region of North Carolina and the top 10 percent nationally, working with clients from a wide range of industry sectors.  Briguglio has led the firm to three consecutive Pinnacle Awards for Steady Growth and Profitability from the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, and the Triangle Business Journal has listed the firm as one of their Best Places to Work.  Among her many accomplishments, Briguglio most recently was named Woman Business Owner of the Year by the Greater Raleigh chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).
