Known as Manny and once recognized by his team members as the “Best eWatch Manager Ever,” he had found his niche within corporate structure of eBay—the world’s largest online marketplace. Behind the computer code that drives the website where almost anyone can sell practically anything at any time are people, or in this case, Manny’s managing Director, Customer Support (CS) Vice Presidents, Human Resource management and an aspiring manager with known performance issues conspired to replace him. Later eBay’s legal counsel openly admitted that eBay intentionally discriminated against Manny. Like computer code, people within an organization are also subject to corruption. It was this corruption that led to the harassment and discrimination of Emmanuel Kepas.

Kepas vs. eBay; INTENTIONAL DISCRIMINATION (published by iUniverse amd www.ekepas.com) details a Federal Discrimination Law Suit filed by a former eBay manager against eBay Inc., claiming he was unfairly demoted and then sexually harassed and harassed by his new female manager. Prior to his “new” manager taking his position, she was publicly observed performing a “lap dance” at a corporate eBay Christmas party, exhibiting her breasts in public to a large group of eBay employees and reprimanded for threatening and harassing her employees. This was followed by her Quid Pro Quo invitation for Manny to come over to her home “to get to know her better.” Manny now is fighting to preserve his reputation, honor and integrity in deposition-after-deposition. Both legal and emotional battles take their toll on him and he is diagnosed with severe stress-induced tinnitus (he describes as a loud high-pitched electronic screeching of brake sound), mental health issues and under the advice of his Doctors instructed to leave his employment. The Utah Dept. of Workforce Services issued a decision stating: “that you had good cause for voluntarily leaving work.” Kepas vs. eBay lets the readers review the actual evidence and come to their own verdict. While eBay allegedly "maintains a no-tolerance policy toward discrimination of any kind." Yet they have fought him every step of the way, despite several individuals within eBay who stood up for him. Manny appealed to Meg Whitman for her intervention - only to learn from eBay’s hired counsel (Matt Durham) that his request enraged her.

About the Author
Emmanuel Kepas’ development of integrity and honor began with his involvement in the Boy Scouts of America. Manny began his scouting experience as a Cub Scout, earning the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14. As a scout, he also earned a Duty to God Award, was selected by his peers to join the Order of the Arrow and worked at two Boy Scout summer camps. Kepas later received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and then an M.B.A. from Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business. Prior to joining eBay, Kepas was the Vice President of Morgan Stanley Online New Accounts, were he passed 5 security licenses, including supervisory licenses from NYSE and the former NASD.
