Want to get the correct Dress? Think about it!
When is there ever a time not to shop for clothes, you don’t need a special occasion to get some retail therapy, and boy do we need it!
But let’s suppose for a minute you might need to shop for a special occasion, perhaps a Party Dress maybe , or you’ve been invited to a wedding or an important get together during this summer, or God forbid a date! We haven’t had one of those for a while?
So what do you choose? Are you over dressed, under dressed, what about all day function, do I need to take a change?
Well all these are dilemmas which we all have to consider for sure, but at first we need to get the basics correct.
It’s a sad fact that too many women hang on to the styles and fashion that have been long past their sell by date, and in most cases this comfort zone your in is doing you no good.
Unfortunately we’re creatures of habit and as such we like the familiar, we are comfortable with the status quo, yes we take the route of least resistance.
Unfortunately it’s human nature to be lazy, and the older we get the lazier we become, old dogs, new tricks springs to mind, and that is so true of our fashion.
Remember when we were teenagers and we wore all the latest fashions, it was all good, we dared to be different, we changed every week, we scrimped and scraped the little we had for a girls shopping trip on a Saturday afternoon; Those were the days?
Well as we got older we had this fanciful idea that as thirty something’s we didn’t need to be fashionable any more, is it because we have a partner now that we don’t have to try anymore, after all we’ve done the hard bit? Or is it the kids popping out with alarming regularity?
But hey, whenever we do get out of the four walls, we hang on to the notion that we still look good in stuff we wore at university… Yeah, that RahRah skirt’s a classic? Er WRONG!
So if we’re absolutely honest we all get the tiniest bit lazy when it come to fashion, but it doesn’t have to be like that. Leave it unchecked and the next thing you know you’ll be twanging those elasticated waists in tesco’s thinking how comfortable those trousers look!
So what options do we have? Most of us will look at a dress and think it’s nice without actually considering how it will look on us, and that’s I’m afraid the first and main error you can possible make, and the root of your very own fashion faux pas. Too many women just don’t think about what they’re wearing and think if it looked good on me ten years ago it’ll look good on me now – WRONG!
That said, it’s very easy to make that type of error as most of us have a positive body image, and as such we tend to be a tad optimistic about how we look, yes girls we all live in denial. So, with that in mind you just need to take a step back and actually be true to yourself. That way you’re doing yourself justice and make the best of what you’ve got, not of what you haven’t!
But before you choose anything, I would always recommend that you THINK about the choices you have; you’re in control, you just have to apply the old grey matter, and as such always think the Three F’s - Form Follows Function;
This in essence means that you think about the basics of what will work for your body type, before you think about colours, accessories etc…
So recommended tips are to ask yourself, what shape am I really? Boyish, petite, pear-shaped, big hips etc. write them down. Then do some research as to what the best style is for your shape.
So for example, having big hips may be best remedied with an empire waist? This has the affect of drawing the eye up and gives the illusion of thinning the hips.
Or if you’re vertically challenged, look at ways to make you legs longer with a slightly shorter dress perhaps and higher pair of heals and avoid busy prints. Similarly, a leggy woman may choose to wear flatter shoes and a maxi dress to appear smaller.
Once you’ve got the function right, you can then start looking at form, this entails looking at the colours and accessories to compliment your natural assets such as your skin tone for example and parts of your body that you’re proud of, don’t be negative now, you can always find something good about yourself!
So again, look back at your previously made notes about your body shape, take time to think how you can make the best of what you’ve got.
Also take time to consider the occasion and whether the garment will actually be suitable. From a versatility perspective, you may also want to consider how you might match it in with other items so it can be worn several times, not just the once.
So taking a little time to prepare means that you can nail that look you’ve always wanted, and armed with your research you can then go off to the shops and find those perfect http://www.womensdresses.org.uk; and remember what they say about preparation, failing to plan is planning to fail!
Good luck with your search.
