June 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Many corporate high-flyers thrown onto the dole queue by the recession are using the Credit Crunch as an opportunity to re-evaluate their careers and find a job with meaning, said Ruth Sanderson, MD of blue pea POD, the Cheshire based business performance consultancy.

“The behaviour of the banks and the City firms has fundamentally changed our view of the world – and our career ambitions,” said Ruth who has helped international clients identify the jobs that will give them most satisfaction.

“A growing number of talented individuals who I have seen recently are consciously seeking careers with values and integrity. They want job satisfaction, fulfillment and to do something they feel is worthwhile.

“Many feel they had previously settled for something mediocre or went for the flashy title and high salary without properly considering whether the job itself had any real meaning or value for them,” added Ruth speaking from her office near Chester.

Recent headlines about the growing number of former city traders applying for teaching jobs in schools across the country was a clear indication of the scale of career re-evaluation during the recession.

“A cynic might argue that the rush of city talents into education might have more to do with job security than job satisfaction,” said Ruth. “But on a serious note, how much real consideration have these individuals given to such a drastic change of occupation?

“Yes, a job for life in the public sector might have huge appeal to someone who has just lost their city job in a long and hard recession. But are they really prepared cope with a move from the excitement of the trading floor to the classroom?

“The fact is most people don’t give enough serious consideration to the type of career that would suit them best,” added Ruth. “They don’t look at the impact that corporate culture will have on their job satisfaction and fulfillment. – and that’s where we and our expertise come in.

“We can uncover what a client’s ‘job with meaning’ really is and help them get a clear focus for their job search.”
