Artfully Unforgotten's production titled "ARTISTS for GISIMBA" will be featured at Hello
Living's Dakota Building. Live music performances by Mamarazzi and Ashley Jones, with
accompanying visual material. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the
orphanage, as well as support the orphanage, by participating in a silent auction consisting of
artwork created by New York City artists, inspired by the history of Rwanda and the Gisimba
Memorial Center Orphanage. Food and Beverage support generously provided by Prospect
Heights establishments. Tickets $20 in advance/$25 at the door. Guests who tour the Hello Living development will receive free admission with a $20 suggested donation.
The Gisimba Memorial Center currently serves as a safe haven for children, but during the
1990's genocide, it also provided refuge to adults. The orphanage is home to about 200
children, most of whom were placed in the orphanage after losing their parents to genocide or
the HIV/AIDS virus. Other children, however, have simply been abandoned by their parents.
Approximately 20 children are HIV-positive and 8 are handicapped.
Artfully Unforgotten is a non-profit organization, which aims to raise awareness of and advocate
for the needs of vulnerable communities throughout the world through the presentation of artistic
exhibits and productions. The founder of Artfully Unforgotten, Heather Metcalfe, spent time in
Rwanda getting to know the children and staff of the Gisimba Memorial Center Orphanage in
November '07 and most recently returned this past January.
