Two National Park Service (NPS) officials will present an “Orientation for New Southeast Regional National Heritage Areas,” in Tupelo, Miss. on Thursday, which will cover a range of topics including management planning and technical assistance.
Patty Wissinger, National Heritage Areas Coordinator in the National Park Service's Southeast Regional Office in Atlanta, Ga., and Eleanor Mahoney, Assistant Coordinator for Heritage Areas in NPS's National Heritage Areas Program Office in Washington, D.C. will conduct a joint presentation from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the BancorpSouth Convention Center in Tupelo.
“Representatives from the Mississippi Hills, Mississippi Delta and Muscle Shoals National Heritage Areas, along with staff from the Natchez Trace Parkway, are scheduled to attend the presentation,”
Patty Wissinger has served as Chief of Partnerships at NPS’s Southeast Regional Office and most recently as Deputy Superintendent at Shenandoah National Park. She has also served as Assistant District Ranger and Chief of Interpretation at Blue Ridge Parkway. Patty is well known for managing complex partnership issues, development projects, and contracts and agreements with a wide variety of public, private and non-profit NPS partners. Eleanor Mahoney is responsible for budget and policy development, as well as national communications and legislative affairs.
The three new National Heritage Areas were authorized earlier this year and join 46 others around the country. The meeting is open to cultural and heritage stakeholders, public officials and the general public.
