The Mall at Barnes Crossing in Tupelo, Miss. will be filled with patriotic fervor this Saturday as Scott Burns hosts a rally and retires to the 15-feet-high platform he will live in for the next week to raise funds for Cell Phones for Soldiers, an organization that provides calling cards to troops who are serving overseas.
“I am endeavoring to raise funds to purchase calling cards, so that our troops will be able to call home while they are overseas defending our freedom,” said Burns. “I believe there are many great causes worthy of our support, especially in these trying economic times, but to me, the support of the men and women serving in the United States Military stands out as a great American duty.”
The kick-off rally will start at 9 a.m. and will culminate with Burns climbing atop the platform that will be his new home for 23.5 hours a day from June 27 through July 4. His goal is to raise $30,000, and all funds donated will go to troops in the form of calling cards. To donate, please go to isupportthetroops.info or call 662.401.3349.
