Americans are preparing to celebrate the Fourth of July, and even the tight economy hasn’t dampened enthusiasm for the holiday. In a recent study conducted by the Kamaron Institute, 99 percent of respondents reported plans to celebrate the Fourth of July.

But some families will celebrate without a loved one, as a husband, mother, brother or sister serves in the military. Nearly three million Americans serve in the armed forces.

The sacrifices of the men and women in the armed forces do not go unnoticed. In the same study by the Kamaron Institute, 98 percent of respondents described themselves as “appreciative and thankful for the service and sacrifice of American military troops, their families and American veterans.”

In recognition of the Fourth of July, and all that military families sacrifice for their nation, the Kamaron Foundation is releasing a free, downloadable e-book, titled Casey and The Amazing Giant Green Shirt.

Casey And The Amazing Giant Green Shirt is a heartwarming fable about the power of words to change the world, showing adults and children how to succeed in school, life and relationships.

“Casey’s story is a thank-you gift from our family to America’s extended military families,” explains Margaret Ross.  Ross is founder of Kamaron Institute’s Research Group and the Kamaron Foundation.

Casey and the Amazing Giant Green Shirt is a story for families to enjoy together, creating teachable parent-child moments. The book will be available for free download through Dec. 31, 2009, at www.kamaron.org/military.

The Kamaron Institute also found:

Of those reporting holiday plans, 37 percent planned picnics, barbecues or cookouts, 31 percent planned to attend fireworks, and 15 percent wanted to see a parade. Only 9 percent planned to take vacation time that week. Nearly one in three respondents (28 percent) own an American flag, and about the same number (27 percent) own patriotic apparel.

America has declared itself ready to celebrate and appreciate, and in keeping with that spirit of patriotism, the Kamaron Institute has provided a way to honor the U.S. military.
