A major bathroom manufacturer has announced that it is participating in a series of workshops taking place at various places around the country run by the WRc to educate building professionals on the new Part G Building Regulations which come into effect on 1st October 2009.
The workshops are aimed at anyone involved in building control, building design, product manufacture and installation of hot and cold water systems, They run from 9th June to 1st July.
A small group of bathroom companies are supporting the initiative by staging exhibitions alongside, displaying and providinf advice on a selection of their design-led, water and energy saving products, TMV approved thermostatic controls and grey-water recycling technology.
Part G is geared towards improving safety and water-efficiency in the bathroom and reducing water-consumption is a major focus. All new build homes are required to meet a new target of 125 litres per person per day, the current average usage being around 150 litres per day.
Within Part G, the Government also formally promotes secondary sources of water in a bid to make new homes greener. Grey-water recycling, which unlike rainwater harvesting is not dependant on rainfall, is a progressive approach as it is based on the principal of using water twice. The Pontos AquaCycle bathroom system takes waste water from the basin, bath and shower and recycles this otherwise waste water for flushing the toilet, watering the garden, household cleaning and laundry. without the need for chemicals. The system being modular is suitable for all buildings including multi-unit dwellings.
