The Iowa City Mosque is pleased to announce that it will be hosting an event to discuss the role of women and their status in the Islamic faith. Guest speaker Miriam Amer of Cedar Rapids along with a panel of Muslim women from the community will present the lecture at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12th at the Iowa City Mosque located at 1812 West Benton Street in Iowa City, Iowa.
Among the topics to be addressed at the lecture include: the treatment and rights of women according the the Qur'an (the Islamic holy text), the role of Muslim women in modern society, and the history and reasoning behind the hijab (headscarf) that is worn by many Muslim women throughout the world.
Following the lecture, the panel will open itself up for questions and debate by audience members. A lively and thought-provoking discussion is anticipated.
The Iowa City Mosque welcomes local and regional media outlets to attend the event, and will make available the speakers for interviews following the conclusion of the presentation.
