The Kennebec and Moose River Valleys Tourism Council announces the Maine Film Center’s 12th Annual Maine International Film Festival (MIFF), July 10-19 in Waterville, Maine.

Founded in 1988, the MIFF has gained popularity and acclaim for its 10 days of American, international, and local independent films.  Each year, nearly 100 films and 50 filmmakers are featured.  Audiences are given the opportunity to meet directors, producers, and writers involved in many of the films shown.  New this year, MIFF is partnering with the Skowhegan Drive-In, one of the few remaining drive-ins in the state, to present Infestation, a comedic horror film about giant man-eating bugs by Maine native, Kyle Rankin.

The 2009 MIFF will be held at two separate venues: the Waterville Opera House, located on the third floor of 93 Main Street, and Railroad Square Cinema, located at 17 Railroad Square.  The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the Waterville Opera House.

All tickets and passes for the 2009 MIFF are available online at www.miff.org starting June 22.  Tickets and passes are available at the festival venues before show times.

In addition to gaining national recognition as Maine’s premiere outdoor recreation area, the Kennebec and Moose River Valleys region, spanning from Gardiner to Jackman, is well known for hosting one of Maine’s best film festivals.  The annual MIFF is one of the region’s most widely celebrated artistic events, offering individuals the opportunity to see some of the world’s finest independent films.
