“Show Restraint! Avoid Tiananmen-Style Crackdown!” Mediazone Boss Tells Ayatollah

PR Log (Press Release) – Jun 20, 2009 – In a communiqué to Iran’s Supreme Religion Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mediazone Group CEO Glenn Rogers stated that it would be in Iran’s interest to ensure that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s neo-conservative administration ‘showed restraint in the handling of the impending nation-wide protest against the results of Iran’s recent national elections.’  

“The fact remains that the results of the recent national elections have been called into question nearly nation-wide. Iran must allow for peaceful protests and promise its people a transparent re-election immediately. A Tiananmen-style crackdown will be counterproductive,” Rogers said drawing reference to the Tienanmen Square protest of 1989 in which civilian lives were lost in Beijing, China.

“Fundamental thinking may prefer a leader who defies the West, but popular expression must prevail if Iran is to form mutually progressive ties with a world that wants to befriend it. Iran has before it a rare opportunity to either rise above this current crisis and bloom as a resilient Iran and bring an end to an era of unwarranted suspicion, or stain history with a bloodbath that will never be forgotten. Reason must prevail. An iron fist will not serve Iran today, or ever.
