On May 12, 2009 Capture The Dream and the Willie Mays Boys and Girls Club sponsored the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Event at the Club in San Francisco.

Over forty boys and girls participated in the event which included members of the Willie Mays Boys and Girls Club and the Bay View Hunters Point YMCA.

When asked what they liked about the event Tino Ellington, Recreation Director from the Bay View Hunter’s Point YMCA was very pleased with the way it went. “It was fun for a first time event and it gave the kids a chance to go to the All Star Game”.

Jake Babick, Counselor from the Willie Mays Boys and Girls Club also felt it was a great day. “The kids were well behaved and they have been looking forward to this event”.

Several of the participants from both clubs were equally excited.

Tommy Thompson said “I enjoyed the challenge of throwing strikes in the pitching event” while Jordan Gazzano said “I had a good time and it was helpful practicing with my coach”.  Both represented the Willie Mays Boys and Girls Club.

From the Bay View Hunters Point YMCA Pedro Manzanares mentioned “I was excited about throwing four of my six pitches for strikes”. Tristen Ellington said “I enjoyed the hitting event”. He hit two of the deepest drives of the day.

The winners of each age group from  7 year olds to 13 year olds moved closer for a chance to participate in the event at the MLB All Star Game in July.
