UK used car buyer Sell Car UK has agreed a deal with global credit information experts Experian to offer a car credit check through their own website. The tool will enable customers and site visitors to check the financial history of any vehicle – as well as mileage records and major insurance claims.
Experian's Autocheck tool is currently available through Experian websites, but is not commonly known to private car buyers and sellers. Sell Car UK agreed a deal with Experian that brings the Autocheck tool to thousands of Sell Car UK customers and website users.

“We're excited to offer Autocheck through our site,” said Rogers. “Many dealerships already use this credit check service, but the general public is less aware of it.”
“By offering it through our site, customers and site visitors can check the history of their car or run a report on any car they're considering buying. People shopping around for different vehicles can even check up to 5 cars as part of the multi-vehicle option.”
According to the Autocheck website, the service can report if a car:
• Is subject to any outstanding finance
• Is recorded as an insurance write-off
• Is recorded stolen
• Is likely to have had its mileage 'clocked'
The report also gives confirmation of ownership, mileage verification, major insurance claims, import status and history of previous checks on vehicles.
Users will need to input a car registration number, personal details and credit/debit card number to purchase a report. The check will cost the same as reports from the Autocheck site – with options for single and multi-car reports.
“We get lots of enquiries from people thinking 'I need to sell my car' that are looking to gauge the value of their vehicle before selling it,” said Rogers. “This is an added tool for those enquiries.”
“We're also expecting to finalise several similar deals with other partners in the coming weeks, including car insurance and car finance options.”
