After 25 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Detroit, Shelley Foy has announced her candidacy for Detroit City Council and has been endorsed by Kim Worthy, Wayne County Prosecutor. Shelley Foy’s professional career has been one of public service. Ms. Foy served the citizens of Detroit for 25 years in law enforcement with the Detroit Police Department. For 15 of those years, she was the Commanding Officer of the Child Abuse Unit. There, she was responsible for the investigation of child abuse and neglect complaints. During her tenure as commanding officer, complaints for child abuse and neglect decreased approximately fifty percent.

Shelley Foy has been a lifelong resident of Detroit and a graduate of Detroit Public Schools.
After 25 years of dedicated service to the citizens of the City of Detroit, Shelley I. Foy retired from the Detroit Police Department on January 10, 2005. Foy began her distinguished career with Police Department on September 19, 1977. After her graduation from the Detroit Metropolitan Police Academy, she was assigned to the Fifth Precinct.

Shelley Foy's tenure with the police department included assignments to the Third Precinct, Seventh Precinct, Sex Crimes Unit, Commercial Auto Theft Section and the Child Abuse Unit. Foy's final assignment was in the Child Abuse Unit where she stayed 15 years. Foy was promoted to the ranks of Investigator, Sergeant, and Lieutenant prior to retirement. She developed several initiatives and received nearly three million (3,000,000.00) dollars in grant funding from local, state and federal governmental agencies to reduce child abuse/neglect cases in the City of Detroit. In an effort to better improve services to children and their families, she was instrumental in relocating the Child Abuse Unit to the Wayne County Child and Family Services, Child Protective Services facility at 2929 Russell in Detroit.

Throughout her career she has been the recipient of numerous awards including the two Chief's Merit Awards; one GOP Commemorative Award; four Chief's Unit Awards; eight Perfect Attendance Awards; "1991 Patrol Officer of the Year Award" and the receiver of several letters of commendation from other agencies, businesses and citizens.
Shelley Foy served the Detroit Police Department and the citizens of Detroit with loyalty, dedication and the utmost professionalism. On January 7, 2005 the Detroit City Council commended Shelley Foy for her years of valuable service to the City of Detroit and its citizens.
