NSF International, an independent, not-for-profit organisation, has announced that Waterco is the first swimming pool and spa equipment manufacturer to receive certification to NSF/ANSI Standard 50 - Equipment for Swimming Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs and Other Recreational Water Facilities for a pre-filtration device.
Certification to NSF Standard 50 for swimming pool and spa equipment verifies compliance with the American National Standard for this new product type confirming performance, safety, and material health effects requirements have been met.
According to Mr Chris Fitzmaurice, National Manager of Swimart, the swimming pool franchise that markets the Multicylone in Australia and New Zealand, testing at the NSF headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, validated that the Multicyclone unit can save swimming pool and spa operators both time and money by drastically reducing the need for backwash.
“Further, the Multicyclone unit can extend the life of a filter by decreasing water consumption and prolonging the life of filter media or cartridges.”
Mr Fitzmaurice said that Waterco’s decision to pursue Certification with NSF/ANSI Standard 50 demonstrates their commitment to environmental conservation and public health.
“The award-winning Multi Cyclone filter, for instance, has no moving parts to wear and no filter media to clean or replace. Cleaning only uses about 15 litres of water, and backwashing is minimal. This saves on average 7,000 litres of water a year.”
NSF/ANSI Standard 50 is the American National Standard for swimming pool equipment, spas, hot tubs and other recreational facilities including filters and filter media, pumps, valves, water circulation devices, hose, piping, fittings, pool alarms, pool covers, chemical generation and feeding systems, and advanced water treatment and oxidation technologies, such as ozone and ultraviolet (UV) systems.
NSF is accredited as a Nationally Recognised Testing Laboratory (NRTL) by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and as a certification organisation by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for numerous product standards. Founded in 1944, NSF is committed to protecting public health and safety worldwide.
