June 17, 2009 - PRLog -- (RALEIGH, NC) -- Pretty in Pink Foundation, a Raleigh-based non-profit organization that provides financial assistance and quality of life resources for underinsured and uninsured people diagnosed with breast cancer in North Carolina, is among the finalists for the first annual GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) IMPACT Awards focusing on the Research Triangle Park (RTP) region of the state.

GSK’s IMPACT Awards honor organizations that provide access to healthcare for the underserved, and that demonstrate Innovation, Management, Partnership, Achievement, Community focus, and Targeting need (IMPACT) within their communities.

The RTP-region GSK IMPACT awards will recognize up to 10 community-based small and mid-sized nonprofit healthcare organizations in Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake counties with annual operating expenses under $2.5 million.

GSK’s has been presenting its IMPACT awards annually for 12 years in both the U.S. (Philadelphia) and the United Kingdom (London). This is the first year the RTP region has been targeted.

The RTP region’s IMPACT awards are presented in partnership with the Triangle Community Foundation (www.trianglecf.org), a nonprofit organization that makes grants and administers a variety of programs for the community’s benefit.

GlaxoSmithKlein executives consulted with leading healthcare experts to select the finalists. The 10 winners will be announced later this year and will receive $40,000 each during a ceremony to be held in December.
