Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center kicks off Summer Travel Season with Help from Wal-Mart

The Wal-Mart Foundation, through it Hamburg Wal-Mart store, has donated $500 to the Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center, Inc. to assist it in its 2009 season of providing visitor information and services at the Route 5 Visitor Center in Hamburg.

The Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, operated by local volunteers, the Friends of the LESTC which was formed in 2005 at the behest of the Town of Hamburg. Its mission is to develop and operate the facility as a visitor’s center, promote tourism-related attractions, restaurants, and accommodations in the Hamburg community and the Greater Buffalo-Niagara region, and to provide community service.

Travelers and local residents visit the center for travel guides and brochures for regional attractions, discover educational exhibits, and being a community resource for the people of Hamburg, New York.   The Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center serves the public interest by providing traveler information and services, tourism promotion of the Hamburg and Buffalo–Niagara regions through a marketing focus on the Seaway Trail tourism corridor, and in offering a community resource to local residents for group meeting space. Visitors to the center discover educational exhibits on maritime heritage, natural history, architectural, cultural, and historical resources of Buffalo-Niagara, free waterfront access, and other opportunities for passive recreation at the Lake Erie shoreline site.

The Wal-Mart Foundation strives to provide opportunities that improve the lives of individuals in local communities including its customers and associates. Through financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteerism, the Wal-Mart Foundation supports initiatives focused on enhancing opportunities in its four main focus areas of education, workforce development / economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness.
