Letter to the Orphans

I love you and I committed to God to take on any battle that was necessary to have your voice heard.  I have overcome death threats, being held hostage, insults and a smear campaign funded by racists.  

You are all God’s children and it is critical that we get the World leaders to appreciate how precious and priceless your lives are and how critical you being healthy and Educated to play your role as economic soldiers is to ensure that each economy is sustainable and prosperous.  Since I was with you in Uganda, many changes have occurred.  3 of the G8 leaders have shown tremendous empathy for your suffering and are ready to embrace a large scale solution that includes all orphans.

President Obama has a genetic link to Africa and a desire for practical Foreign Policy initiatives that invest from the’ bottom up’.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the UK has a deep love for children and understands how a child can suffer.  He also pioneered the financial Sector in cross border investments for child vaccines so he knows how much we need new financing innovations to empower the poor.

President José LuisRodríguez Zapatero.[2]of Spain has met his MDG targets in funding even though the economy in Spain has been in recession.  He took the moral high ground even if some of his citizens didn’t understand. The other 5 leaders of the G8 Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia, seem to be focused on their domestic economies where even the poorest of their poor have access to clean water, food, clothes, healthcare and education.  I pray this will change.  I am sure if Canadians, Germans, Italians, Japanese and Russians knew that 30,000 of you were dying EVERY day…they would insist that their governments acted with scale and speed.  These actions to stand up for the poor take courage and tenacity….as you know I represent 13 million orphans across Africa that try and survive on 20c a day.  Yet an American Union paid $72.5 million in lobbying fees to get their members good deals.  Barack Obama wants to reform Capitol Hill so that issues for the poor are at the top of the list regardless of how little they have for Lobbying.

Indeed, it has been almost impossible to communicate what its like to live your life, abandoned, homeless, without care, food, clean water, education, healthcare and clothes…even the few of you who have one or more of these basic items struggle to establish yourselves in the community and most women would love the opportunity to create a micro-enterprise or co-operative and become sustainable. The richest 7 people in the world have more than the bottom1 billion!  

I’m happy that people create wealth, that’s great however, money is energy.  Like blood it must flow and too many people try to hoard it.  The top 200,000 US Foundations are hoarding $2.12 trillion.  That is sufficient energy to ensure that EVERY child on the planet receives healthcare and education.  Currently they must by law give out 5% of their funds every year, this includes administration, fund raising, technology and program management costs.   So 19 of every $20 is sitting in an investment account on Wall Street instead of being invested in the cause.  That’s wrong…..the donors gave that money to serve the need. American donors must start asking the questions
“What are you going to invest my donation in” and
“WHEN are you going to invest it”?

You deserve a future…you deserve access to the basics so you can build a life for yourselves and your communities. I will be meeting with PM Gordon Brown at No 10 in the next few days to hand over a petition from all the orphans, widows, communities and supporters in Africa.
