Annual Sindhu Darshan Yatra to leave Jammu for Ladakh on June 19

The annual Sindhu Darshan Yatra will leave Jammu for Leh in Ladakh region on June 19 morning.

This was stated at a press conference here, today by Kavinder Gupta, Mayor JMC who is also the president of Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti organizing the annual yatra.

He said on June 18 a reception will be accorded to yatris coming from different parts of the country at Abhinav Theater here.

He said this yatra was started in year 1997 on the initiative of then Home Minister, L K Advani to strengthen the cultural base of India and since then this yatra continues and people from entire India visit Ladakh to worship river Sindh.

Abhay Pargal, secretary of the Samiti, while giving background of the Yatra said it existed before partition of the country and last time Sindhu Darshan was held in 1936. The next darshan which was due in 1948 as after every 12 years a Kumbh Mela was held in Sindh province presently in Pakistan which could not take place due to unfortunate partition of the country.

He said the yatra will reach Leh on June 22 evening and three days festival will be held on June 23, 24 and 25 at the banks of the river. It will return from Leh on June 26, he added.

Sudesh Paul treasurer of the Samiti said cultural coordination among the people of other parts of India and Ladakh is main objective of the yatra.
