When it comes to learning how to drive, there are few better cars to do it in than the Ford Fiesta, but due to its popularity and low depreciation rates, many budding motorists can find it difficult to afford one. Good news, however; Ireland’s leading car sales website, http://www.cbg.ie, has found that used examples of the Fiesta on its site have become increasingly affordable lately. The principal reason is that the recently launched sixth-generation Fiesta has been selling quite strongly, despite the dip in overall new car sales in the current economic climate.
Indeed, the Ford Fiesta was Ireland’s top-selling car according to sales figures for January ’09 with 1,041 happy customers collecting their new cars in that month. The new Ford Fiesta, which hit Irish shores back in November of last year, is not only one of the best-looking superminis to be launched in recent times, it’s also one of the cheapest. As a result, it has been a huge hit with old-model Ford Fiesta owners, and a significant majority of them have upgraded to the new car, putting a glut of fifth-generation examples on the market. Consequently, demand for the older model has decreased significantly and their residuals have taken a big hit since the new model’s launch.
This is evident when you look at the used car section of www.cbg.ie, and the expert team at CBG has already noticed significant depreciation in the residuals of these models. For example, a 2005 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec with alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric windows, sunroof and CD player can currently be sourced for as little as €8k. This is some €4k less than the same car would have set you back this time last year. Similarly, going back just five months to January of this year, a 2007-registered Zetec-spec 1.6 petrol Ford Fiesta was advertised on www.cbg.ie for €15k, but just six months later, most examples can be bought for around €11k. That’s not all the good news, however; you can expect those figures to fall by a further two to three thousand before the end of the year.
