Rating sites like Angie’s List, Kudzu, and Yelp seem to corner the rating site market.  But Kristin Hartshaffer, co-founder of Tinkn.com, feel they fall short – way short in fact.

“Even with all the options out there, I still couldn’t find a great dentist close to my workplace,” says Kristin.  “The other rating sites just didn’t make it easy.”

Tinkn.com doesn’t have the social networking aspect that a lot of the other rating sites tout, and that’s by design.

“There’s certainly a place for social networking, and sites like Yelp do a great job at that,” says Kristin.  “But there’s a whole lot of people that really don’t want to wade through social networking to find what they’re looking for.”

Tinkn.com uses a scoring system that takes into account the physical scores the businesses receive from the users on various aspects like professionalism, competency, and timeliness, the number of reviews received, and the time since the last review.  When a user wants to see dentists in Seattle, for instance, the dentists with the highest scores are listed first.

“Some sites allow the businesses to pay to be listed higher in the rankings.  We will never do that,” says Kristin.

“We want our user community to know what they’re looking at is truly how their neighbors feel.”
