The Sea Swansea festival is being held in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum on June 20 and June 21 and will include sword fighting displays and live shanty music. The event is one of the highlights of the Swansea Bay Summer Festival calendar.
Canon firing demonstrations, a Newfoundland dog rescue display, circus skills workshops and a selection of street entertainers have also been organised.
The free festival is now marking three successive years of thrilling visitors to the museum green and over 12,000 people attended last year.
And some of the other events to have been lined up for its 2009 showing include:
* The Playright pirate ship for children.
* The Sheppy Pirate crew led by Captain Cutlass.
* An artefacts display from the Historic Diving Society.
* Kipper smoking demonstrations.
* A best-dressed pirate competition.
* Stories from the days of Lord Nelson with Horatio the Sea Surgeon.
* A chance to hop on board an RNLI lifeboat and see how the vessel works.
* The opportunity to explore the sea floor with the Marine Biodiversity Society.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: "This is a hugely popular event for the whole family that's become an essential part of the Swansea Bay Summer Festival.
"Swansea has a proud maritime history and this attraction is as informative as it is entertaining.
"I'm sure thousands of people will again flock to the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum to be transported back to a bygone era."
