Kirsten Plotkin is a retired business woman.  She has just published a book called My-Own-Plan, where she reveals that carbohydrate addiction is the real cause of the rampant, worldwide obesity epidemic we see today. She shows how to cure the condition, without dieting, or going hungry.  If you follow her book, you’ll never have to be troubled with a weight problem again.

The book explains why obesity has gone from a minor social problem to an epidemic. It also shows how this is quickly turning into a medical problem, called type2 diabetes.  The book explains why the problem is getting further out of control every year.

Never before was there a time, when little preschool kids started school…Obese. Just recently, on our TV screens, we saw with horror that a baby had been born obese. If we continue as we have, such news will no longer be worth a headline.  We are now told that sixty percent of the population is overweight, and that the problem will continue to grow. Some people are beginning to say we should accept that.  Well, we no longer have to do that.

Sadly, obesity is not just a problem for some, it is a looming social and medical catastrophe for all of us.  Why Medical? Because when you’re obese, you’re just one step away from type2 diabetes, that is, if you are not already there.  The most frustrating fact is that it should never have happened.  It could have so easily been avoided.

Like so many things, it began in the seventieth, when fads of all kinds seemed to be promoted by just about everybody. A few groups of people, who practiced in the fringes of pseudo medicine decided to cut a niche in the market of health and nutrition.  By inference, they assumed science credentials they did not possess, and they set themselves up as guardians of what was healthy and nutritious for everyone to eat.

They were particularly excited to learn about something called cholesterol.  That was a lucky break for them, because the majority of the population at that time would have shown a high cholesterol count, due to a diet which had changed little for centuries.

So these ‘experts’ adopted cholesterol as their personal expertise. They added the good and the bad cholesterol readings together, and therefore almost always managed to come up with an incorrect, very high score for everyone.

Once they had their platform, they needed a product.  They soon developed a cholesterol lowering, definitive diet, which would make everyone healthy. They claimed the diet, if strictly followed, would reduce cholesterol readings to the lowest numbers possible.
It is important to mention that there were no genuine scientific tests or human trials to support the claims made about this diet.

The reason it seemed so credible, was that the diet was all about cholesterol, something new, obviously scientific and therefore must be true.  The thing is, people didn’t really get fat in those days. Some people just put on a little weight occasionally, and they knew, if they wanted to get rid of it, they had to either cut down on food for a while, or increase their exercise.  Old fashioned common sense, no experts required.

This new highly publicized diet was represented by a poster of a pyramid depicting all the ‘essential’ food groups. The base was made up of 30% grains, cereals and other heavy carbohydrates.  Added to that was a copious amount of fruit and vegetables, which are also carbohydrates.  Most people thought, ‘finally someone is ready to give us some modern advice about what is good for us, instead of all that boring food our grandparents made us eat.’

The dubious wisdom of that pyramid, was kept alive for around twenty years, and at least two generations were nurtured on it.  Parents felt confident it would benefit their children.  It was supposed to be how children would grow up healthy and strong.  Remember; This was a diet which consisted of very little protein, the very building blocks of life which are essential for our children while they grow.

So kids grew up, mostly on carbohydrates and in due course, as would have been expected, had proper research and human trials been conducted, they became addicted to carbohydrate.  Even worse! Parents, unknowingly passed their own addiction on to their children.  That’s why today you will find little kids who start school already obese, and that’s how an enormously fat baby can end up on the front page of the worlds newspapers.
This epidemic must be stopped.

The book, My Own Plan, charts the history of the epidemic. It shows how to cure it and how no one will ever have to be called fat again.
