FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jun 13, 2009 – Migrant Farm Worker Appreciation Day is an opportunity to express appreciation for the work done by migrant farm workers, and to build ties between the Mexican and Canadian communities.
The event will take place at the Bradford Community Centre pavilion and main soccer pitch on Sunday, June 28, from noon to 5 p.m. an afternoon of food, appreciation and a soccer match between York Central Hospital and Migrant Workers.
Organizer Eve Roa is extending an invitation to the community, to come out and meet the workers - especially in light of the recent detention of Foreign nationals, working in Bradford illegally. "Not everybody is illegal", she points out. "Most of them are not illegal" -.and in fact some have been coming back to the Holland Marsh to work every summer for the past 15 years or more.
"I want people to welcome them, and understand how hard they work."
She is inviting the community to come by for the event, and is also looking for donations for the picnic, volunteers to teach English to the migrant workers.
Anyone wishing to make a donation, or a soccer team interested in playing a match, is asked to contact Roa at evencool@yahoo.com She is also looking for help from the farm owners who employ the workers: to provide buses or other transportation, to bring the workers to the Bradford Community Centre for a day of awareness, and appreciation.
Soccer begins at noon, the BBQ at 2 p.m., with Mexican musical entertainment. All are welcome to Migrant Farm Worker Appreciation Day, which is being held with support from the Bradford Lions Club, Town of BWG, students from Pickering College, and in partnership with the Even Better Foundation
