One glimpse and that's it. You won't settle for anything less after that and when you look around, you'll realize there aren't any more out there! None with this kind of command over the English language, nor the aptitude to express it with such prowess! G-EyE-- short for "GoldenEyE" and abbreviated for obvious legal reasons-- is all alone even amongst the most elite Hip-hop circles. Go to Omaha, Nebraska and seek out the best emcees you can find there, then ask them who their favorite is. You'll get one answer.
Though his first release ["Sha-1", Jan. 2007] could only be classified as a "mix tape", its content was no less than prolific and will not be easily forgotten by the few thousand lucky enough to be in the vicinity of this initial explosion. The architecture of it was genius! With beats eloquently pilfered from the likes of Blackstreet, Bobby Valentino, Mobb Deep (pre G-unit), Wu-Tang, 3-6 Mafia, T.I. and more, the groove was non-stop, but with no boring parodies. The lyrics were all groundbreaking originals.
G-EyE's second release ["Projeck Alpha" Nov. 2008] was a full-blown pandemic of creativity produced entirely by none other than G-EyE himself. Songs like the heavy bass driven "Ey' Wack Emcee" and Sparse, but hard hitting "Frodo" were like sight to the blind, sex to a virgin. So new, so refreshing, so satisfying... The epic "Fool's Gold" brought forth existentialism, challenging any rapper with the nerve to make false claims about his/her lifestyle for the sake of sales. Even the uncharacteristically up-beat "Rotate" hit its mark, begging the question: can you shake your booty and pay attention to thought provoking lyrics at the same time? Apparently so. Who'd of thunk it?
So far, G-EyE seems to have a monopoly on Hip-hop perfection. Who knows when or if Uncle Sam will step in and split-up his discography?
