From it's inception the Miss Teenage California Scholarship Pageant has distanced itself from the competition. After 10 years of being your typical "beauty pageant" in 1990 the focus changed. The swimsuit competition was eliminated. As a result the program grew by leaps and bounds. The concentration is on young women with a purpose, say's Frank Lameira, CEO of Danfranc Productions and President of the Miss Teenage California Scholarship Pageant. Fun, Friendship, and Scholarship is our mantra."
Each year thousands in college scholarships and prizes are awarded to outstanding female students 13-19 years of age in California. The competition categories are Achievements & Activities, Personality, Poise and Appearance in Formal Attire. " NO bikini's here, say's Chairman and CEO Frank Lameira. Our contestants represent the spectrum of active, involved, and motivated young women who are involved in school and community.
Frank Lameira, a 1997 inductee into the Performing Arts Hall of Fame for his contribution to the arts through education says, "the education of our youth must be our first priority. Our platform is two fold. Education and Environmental Awareness. The drop out rate in the United States is staggering. In California and throughout the nation our teacher's work for far less then they deserve, and who are their advocates? Our education has suffered major cuts here in California. Lameira says, "The Miss Teenage California Scholarship Program believes that our youth are our greatest natural resource. We support education through our scholarship program, and have done so for over three decades. We will continue to serve in this manner, assuring our participants of Miss Teenage California that we are indeed aware, and involved. With over three billion in recent cuts in education in California, we understand that each individual must be pro-active in insuring that the education of our students are our #1 priority, and that our educator's are paid well for what we consider is the most important job in our state.
The second platform that the Miss Teenage California Program has undertaken is Environmental Awareness. We encourage and support this in our schools. There are four areas of concern our program has concentrated on, say's Lameira. 1. Developing creative recycling projects, 2. Protecting endangered wildlife, 3. conserving water resources, and 4. Beach environmental awareness. We encourage our participants to become active in spreading the word through their schools, the importantance of a clean environment.
Say's Lameira, "we are different from most pageants, in that we take a pro-active role in our contestant's education and encourage them to care about the welfare of our planet."
There are no local pageants to enter. Candidates are selected through a screening process. For more information on the 2010 Miss Teenage California Scholarship Pageant, please visit our website at www.missteenageca.com
