PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 12, 2009 -
In honor of National “Go Skateboarding Day,” Modern Skate & Surf is offering free skate lessons at Ranney Skate Park in Lansing, MI.  They are also offering FREE SKATBOARDING to all that come on Sunday, June 21 to their private skate parks in the Centerpointe Mall in Grand Rapids AND in Madison Heights/ Royal Oak.

Celebrating their 30th year (1979-2009) in the skate business, Modern Skate & Surf, Michigan’s premier skate shop, is sponsoring this day for all skateboarders.

“We really want to encourage kids to get off the couch and away from their computers and video games and do something physical.  Skateboarding is a great way to get some exercise and improve your self confidence while meeting new friends” says George Leichtweis, owner of Modern Skate & Surf.

Modern’s team sponsored riders will be there to assist in general instruction and show off their talents as extreme athletes.

Go Skateboarding Day is an unofficial holiday that occurs annually on June 21, the most common day for the Northern Solstice. The name for the holiday possibly originated from the "No Skateboarding" signs which often have been changed to "Go Skateboarding." by local skaters. The holiday was conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to help make skateboarding more accessible to the world through various events held in major cities around the world. Beginning with the first celebration in 2004, GSD has since received Special Congressional Recognition from the US Congress for promoting the sport of skateboarding. This holiday is celebrated by millions of skaters around the world.

You must have a waiver filled out in order to skate their privately owned parks. Under 18, parent/legal guardian must sign the waiver in front of a Modern Skate Park employee or have their signature notarized–no exceptions. You can download a waiver at www.modernskate.com by clicking on “Skate Parks”

Skating at Ranney Park in Lansing is free to all that come.
