Volunteer at Posta de Ancahuasi in Peru

This placement provides cilinic service for people of the rural area in Peru

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 12, 2009 -
The running of the local clinic to serve this community and the neighboring rural highland communities near by. The role of administering vaccinations that are neccesary for these rural communities without access to the hospitals in Cusco. This placement needs volunteers because Ancahuasi is run by a staff of 6 people, but they are not enough to take care of a population of 3,000 people. Helping hands are always welcome in the day to day activities here; from helping to administer vaccinations to lending support in first aid treatment. The staff is very accomadating and welcoming for anyone who comes to this special rural clinic.

Volunteers can help by doing the folowing tasks:
1) Sit in on patient-nurse appointments
2) Travel to nearby rural communities, promoting vaccination campaigns and general health and nutrition. Nutrition is important for these communties, as they are the poorest of the poor in Peru and often struggle to eat the proper foods to get all of their necessary nutrients. The government has actually implemented an excellent program called ´Programa Juntos.´ It´s aimed at children and insuring they are receiving the proper diet to grow and stay healthy.
3) Assist triage: this includes everything from weighing patients to measuring their height to taking their blood pressure. It can get pretty busy at the clinic so helping here really helps the patient flow.
4) Assist in transportation of patients to nearby, bigger health centre in Izcuchaca in ambulance.
5) Assist in the administration of the vaccination campaigns. Going to a local school the help the nurse hand out needles.
6) Assist obstetrician with baby deliveries.
7) Help stitching wounds and giving general first aid. Dr. Faus is hoping to organize a donation campaign to assist in buying soccer uniforms for the local children. They would also love to organize games/sports for the children of the community to play and help to be more active. Volunteers must be of age 20 or above with minimum education of Undergraduation.

Volunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement:- Doctor Nurse Medical Student Pre-Med Student Emergency Medical Technician Standard First-Aid Health & Hygiene Training HIV/AIDS Awareness Training Medical Administration Physiotherapy Sexual & Reproductive Health Training
