June 12, 2009 - PRLog -- Graybow Communications Group is now offering 700 MHz Trade-In Programs in an effort to encourage wireless users to move out of the 700 MHz spectrum range—frequencies between 698 and 806 MHz--in anticipation of regulatory decisions by the FCC.  The 700 MHz band went into the spotlight when the FCC first announced the move to DTV, and recently the FCC has created uncertainty for wireless microphone owners when it auctioned off what is commonly referred to as the "700 MHz band" in April 2008.

There is much confusion and misinformation regarding the 700 MHz transition. The FCC decided in 1998 to auction off television spectrum in 700 MHz band to help balance the budget. This spectrum, sometimes referred to as the “digital dividend” band, was to be completed by September 2002. The final auction actually occurred in February 2008.  The FCC has not made a final ruling regarding whether or not existing licensed wireless users in the 700 MHz band will be required to vacate the spectrum, although it is considering a prohibition on wireless microphone operations in this band.

The FCC has not yet determined the date of, or transition period for, vacating the 700 MHz band. The Professional Audio Manufacturers Association (PAMA), National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), and others are lobbying the FCC for a two-year transition time. Even without the FCC’s ruling, it is clear that the 700 MHz spectrum is going to become very crowded, and users of legacy 700 MHz systems are likely to experience unreliable performance due to interference.

To remedy the situation, Graybow Communications Group would like to help get older 700 MHz systems wireless microphones off the air in as simple a manner as possible, even if the product was not purchased through Graybow. Audio-Technica or Shure 700 MHz products qualify for the 700 MHz Trade-In Programs, regardless of whether they were purchased through Graybow or not.  For more details regarding the Audio-Technica program, including complete terms and conditions, please contact Graybow Communications Group or visit www.audio-technica.com.

Shure Incorporated announced that the company is extending its rebate program of up to $1,000 for the trade-in of Shure 700 MHz frequency band (698-806 MHz) wireless systems and for any other manufacturers’ qualifying 700 MHz frequency band wireless systems and their related components until December 31, 2009. “The response to the rebate program has been overwhelmingly positive so far, which is also why we’re extending the rebate until the end of the year,” says Mark Humrichouser, general manager of Shure’s Americas Business Unit. “Despite the fact that a final decision from the FCC is still pending, we want our customers to know that we’re here to help.”

Customers may submit their Shure rebate form with the purchase of the following new replacement products from Shure: UHF-R®, ULX®, MX690/SLX4L, PSM®700 (H3, L2 bands), and PGX. To obtain a Shure rebate form, please contact Graybow Communications Group or go directly to www.shure.com/rebate.
