New Lounge features beamed ceilings, gas fireplace, 42-inch plasma screens and weekly manager's cocktail parties.

June 11, 2009 - PRLog -- The historic Thayer Hotel at West Point has just completed a half million dollar renovation of its lounge, adjacent to the main lobby, and private bridal/corporate dining suite, located just off the Lawn Terrace.

After several months of construction, the hotel recently re-opened its new lounge, offering seating for up to 50 people in a modern, yet comfortable atmosphere.  The new beamed ceiling and gas fireplace, coupled with new loveseats, tables and chairs create a cozy ambience.  The bar has been completely refurbished and a new granite island separates the bar from the lounge seating area.  The flooring is finished with a combination of hardwood and carpeting.  For sports enthusiasts, the new Thayer Lounge offers four 42-inch plasma TV screens.

In celebration of the new lounge, the Thayer is now featuring a Manager’s Cocktail Reception every Friday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with half-priced beer and wine and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.

In addition, the hotel has completed a new bridal/corporate dining suite for bridal parties or for small corporate functions.   The new suite can accommodate up to 10 dinner guests, and offers an original fireplace that has been completely restored.

“We are pleased to be able to offer the new lounge and private dining suite for our guests,” said Bob Wilson, General Manager of the Thayer Hotel.  “The new lounge is the perfect place to relax and unwind, and both bridal parties and small corporate groups enjoy the privacy and comfort of our new suite.”

The new Thayer Lounge is open daily from noon to 11 p.m., and until 2 a.m. on the weekends, and offers a brand new menu featuring a selection of Chef Peter’s appetizers and light fare.  For more information or directions to the Thayer, please call (845) 446-4731 or check their website at www.thethayerhotel.com.

Built in 1926, the Thayer Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only full-service hotel on the Hudson River from the George Washington Bridge to Albany, New York.  Originally constructed to accommodate U.S. Military Academy personnel and their guests, the Thayer Hotel was a successor of the original West Point Hotel.  The Hotel is named for Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, Superintendent of the Academy from 1817 to 1833.

Over the years, it has hosted a long line of dignitaries and celebrities including General Tommy Franks, General Douglas MacArthur, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, President John F. Kennedy, Her Royal Highness Princess Alsha Bint-Huessen of Jordan, singer Luciano Pavarotti, actors George C. Scott, James Earl Jones and Gregory Peck, the Philadelphia Flyers, and many others.
