Breast augmentation is a procedure that uses implants to enlarge small breasts and rebalance breasts of different size or proportion.
Women have many different reasons for choosing breast augmentation. We offers several types of procedures to:
• Enhance the size, shape or contour of their breasts
• Improve the balance of your figure
• Correct the loss of breast volume and firmness due to pregnancy, nursing, weight-loss or age
• Achieve symmetry with breast size due to underdevelopment or as a reconstructive need
• Improve the fit of clothing and swimsuits
• Improve overall appearance, confidence and self image
When interested in getting a breast augmentation, patients need to understand that the ideal size and shape for their breasts depends on both their body’s frame and their own personal preferences. We work closely with each patient to create a breast surgery plan that specifically matches her desires and image of her breast's ideal shape to her body's form and function.
The surgeon will make a small incision, usually located under the lower portion of the breast near the chest wall. A pocket is created for the implant either in the breast tissue or the chest wall muscle. Once this pocket is created, the implant is carefully placed, centered beneath the nipple and the skin is sutured.
A breast augmentation takes approximately one hour. This surgery is done on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia. Following your surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home.
Although patients are usually back at work in less than one week, breast implants still require time to heal. This is the body’s natural response to recent surgery. It takes three to six months for the implants to settle and relax and give the kind of natural look that patients seek. This is something that patients need to consider before undergoing a breast augmentation
Following surgery, patients should expect some post-operation effects and should follow specific instructions as described below.
• Patients may experience some degree of bruising, swelling and tenderness.
• Bed rest the day of surgery is recommended.
• Limit activity for the next two days following surgery.
• Avoid strenuous activities for about one to two weeks.
• Patients can typically return to work within the first week.
• We recommend a sports bra be worn for a couple of weeks following surgery.
