Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council is a lead sponsor of the event, joined by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Sacred Grounds Coffee House, and The Relevant Stage Theatre Company.
W.O.W. brings affordable films to San Pedro at a time when families are looking for ways to trim the budget. W.O.W. offers the opportunity to see great movies the way they were meant to be seen - in a movie theatre with an audience. Warner Grand Theatre is not just any movie house. It is a glorious 1931 castle of dreams constructed by the Warners at a time when cinemas were built like cathedrals.
The Warner Grand Theatre was designed by architect B. Marcus Priteca and interior designer A.T. Heinsbergen. Mr. Priteca designed three lavish art-deco movie palaces which were located in San Pedro, Beverly Hills, and Huntington Park. Priteca later designed Hollywood's famous Pantages Theater.
The Warner Grand is the last of the three original theaters left intact and has been undergoing gradual refurbishment after a lengthy period of neglect. Facing possible demolition or re-development, the theater was purchased by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in 1996, and efforts to both restore and program the theater have been ongoing since the acquisition.
