Rumours are circulating that the latest James Bond movie is going to be set in Afghanistan, where the British are fighting a vicious war in Helmand province.
Afghanistan is about to become a major setting for thriller writers and film-makers, argues writer Matt Lynn, who's own new book 'Death Force' is set in the war-torn region.
Bond has always been the secret agent who keeps up with events, and it is completely natural to send him to the one country where the British are involved in their toughest war for forty years.
"I suspect it is only a matter of time before we start seeing a lot more war fiction coming out the country, " said Lynn. "All the elements are there: a vicious war, a terrifying enemy, great power politics, terrorists, drug dealers and their fortunes. Indeed, the only surprising thing is that it has taken writers so long to catch onto it."
There have already been some hugely successful non-fiction books about the Afghan War. But now fiction writers are using it as a setting as well.
The book, published by Hodder Headline, has been receiving great reviews.
'Death Force' tells the story of a band of mercenaries hired by the British Army to eliminate one of the biggest drugs dealers in the region.
'I was anticipating a good time and I wasn't disappointed. A cracking action thriller. You can taste the dust and smell the blood' said the Daily Express.
'Matt Lynn's novel is up there with the finest that Andy McNab or Chris Ryan have ever penned' said the News of The World.
