She was finally stripped of her crown, through contract violations, when Carrie Prejean, Miss California USA, was told by Donald Trump, ”You’re Fired”. The pageant officials state that Prejean failed to participate in pageant-related events.
Same sex marriage comments, to unrevealed semi-nude photos, has made Prejean the centre of controversy, for the last month. She has also been unwilling to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization, while boldly speaking out at appearances that were not sanctioned by Miss USA organizers.
It seemed the mogul Donald Trump, who is the owner of Miss USA, continued to support Prejean, up until now. Trump said in a statement, "I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California USA Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so. Unfortunately it just doesn't look like it is going to happen".
"I know that Donald Trump’s looking out for my best interest, and right now, I think that maybe he thinks that's in the best interest for me", Prejean told ‘Access Hollywood’ host Billy Bush.
Twenty four year-old Tami Farrell was last month appointed a special ambassador, in order to fill in for any event Prejean didn’t show up to. Farrell was Prejean’s runner-up.
After photos came to light of her kissing another woman, Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees lost her crown in 2006. The racy photos were shown all over the Internet. The dethroned Miss Nevada again made headlines when she was arrested for speeding, driving on a suspended license, driving an uninsured vehicle and resisting a police officer. Rees was furious that Prejean’s crown had not been removed. "No matter what the stipulations are with the pictures, if you're semi-nude, you're semi-nude and it says so in the contract. Prejean broke the contact... she should've had her crown taken away just like mine... for her crown not to be taken away is absolutely outrageous". Rees considered taking legal action against Miss USA organizers.
Prejean joins the ever lengthening list of dethroned beauties.
Lindsey Evans, lost her crown in 2008 after being arrested for marijuana possession and deliberately skipping out on paying a restaurant bill. Miss Teen Louisiana, Evans, made the mistake of leaving her bag in the restaurant. Plus the bag contained marijuana in it. Then returning with her friends to retrieve her bag, Evans walked slam bang into the leaving police officers.
Also in 2008, Miss Pima County from 2005, was charged with aggravated robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault. All the charges were related to the holding of her 24 year-old boyfriend hostage.
Claiming she had been drinking underage and using cocaine, Miss USA 2006, Tara Conner, grabbed the headlines. Trump allowed Tara to retain her crown, provided she entered rehab, which she did.
Tia Marie Shorts, ex-Miss Maryland USA (2004), was arrested in April 2009, during a drug bust that involved cocaine, marijuana, heroin and guns. Shorts was accused of a conspiracy to sell drugs.
Vanessa Williams, Miss America 1984, forfeited her crown when racy photos were published in the Penthouse magazine.
These are to name just a few sad incidents surrounding beauty queens.
