Andre Sobel did not live to be a father but this Father’s Day his legacy is helping fathers of seriously ill children. The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation’s Dedications to Dad program is raising funds to help the parents of terminally ill children.
Single fathers face unique challenges as they battle the terminal illness of their son or daughter. They must balance being at the side of their ill child with the demands of work. They have medical bills to pay, doctor consultations to attend and most of all the need to bring comfort to their sick child.
Andre Sobel was a normal teenage boy who at age 19 died from inoperable brain tumor. To honor Andre, his family established the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation.
This Father’s Day, the Foundation is asking for your help by participating in Dedications 2 Dads. Dedications 2 Dads allows you to honor your father by helping a dad in need. From June 8-28, 2009, your donations will go to help single parents such as the single dad with two kids who had to reduce his hours at work to take his child to treatments.
Visit the Andre Sobel River of Life website (http://www.andreriveroflife.org) and click on the Dedications 2 Dads icon. Click on the “Donate” Link. Select a way to donate, either from the $5 for 500 Dads option or one of the other great ways to give, like donating transportation or a bag of groceries. For every donation, you can send your dad a card. This option will be available at the end of the donation. A list of the dads who have had donations made in their name will be listed on the Andre Sobel River of Life website.
Follow Dedications 2 Dads on Twitter @asriveroflife. The Foundation will be hosting Tweetchats throughout the next few weeks. Tweet about your dad and share your experiences by using the hashtag #andred2d.

About the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation:
The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation (a 501(c)(3) public charity) provides emergency assistance within 24 hours to single caregivers of children with catastrophic or life threatening illnesses who are in financial crises. Working in partnership with 12 pediatric hospitals nationally, we have helped over 7,000 family members in the past nine years. Without ASRL’s support, many children with life threatening illnesses would be facing pain, treatments, fear, and at times, even their death, without a parent by their side.
