Jun 10, 2009 – Dr. Randall Wright will be honored by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for his professional commitment to stroke research and treatment and his personal commitment to educating and preventing stroke in the African-American community. The Awards Gala is the opportunity for the AHA/ASA to honor Ambassadors for their exemplary efforts for the Power To End Stroke campaign in 2008-09. The black-tie gala will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.
Power To End Stroke was created in 2006 by the American Heart Association/
American Stroke Association to help reach the ASA mission to reduce stroke and risk of stroke by 25% by 2010. It was also meant to raise critical awareness within the African American population. Power To End Stroke is an education and awareness campaign that embraces and celebrates the culture, energy, creativity and lifestyles of Americans. It unites people to help make an impact on the high incidence of stroke within their communities.
Dr. Wright has been a longtime volunteer of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. From 2006-2008, he served as chairperson of the African American Outreach Task Force and was an inaugural member of the Texas Advocacy Committee. He now serves as President of the American Heart Association Board of Directors in Montgomery County. Dr. Wright is a former Physician Volunteer of the Year Award recipient for the Texas Affiliate and a Hero Award recipient for Power of Legacy.
Dr. Wright graduated Summa Cum Laude from Xavier University Of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He attended Medical School at Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine Department of Neurology. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Wright is married to and has one son.
