The school works with deaf children from all over the Ashanti region. They has pre-school, primary school (ages 6-12), Junior Secondary School (12-15), and a vocational training program. The vocational school teaches tailoring, batik & tie & dye (cloth printing), kente weaving, home economy, catering, and woodworking. The school term runs from Sept 10th to July 16th, and all of the students board on campus. The headmaster, John, was very knowledgeable and eager to provide information about their current programs. This special population requires a lot of extra help, as it is sometimes difficult to give specific attention to all the students. The school is looking for volunteers to act as classroom assistants, helping the teachers. They currently have 357 students, and can always use extra help coordinating extra-curricular programs, or teaching academic subjects. Also, a volunteer who could teach computer skills would be very useful.
Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks:- Teaching assistants in any academic area Teaching computer skills Coordinating after school programs (sports, music) Assisting housemothers in dormitories Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of high school. This placement does not need any volunteers in the month of Jul and Aug.
