By: Debra Mugnani Monroe As a placement and Human Resources consulting group, Monroe, and its temporary staffing division, Temptime, has taken the opportunity to examine its operations to conserve resources, minimize impact on the environmental community and reduce & recycle waste. Monroe joins an ever-growing list of certified San Francisco businesses and organizations. The City of San Francisco’s certification programs provides businesses with tools and resources to reduce its impact on the environment and ultimately, reduce cost. Monroe joins a small niche of two staffing companies on sfgreenbiz.org’ Shortly after receiving its certification, The Mills Building, where Monroe’s home office resides, invited the staff to participate in its Sustainability Fair & Workshop on May 20th, an event for Mills tenants supporting their sustainability pledge. Monroe had recently been featured in the property management company’s newsletter. Monroe is the only green certified company in the building. “Going green is just the right thing to do,” Debra Mugnani Monroe, President & CEO, remarks while handing out reusable compact totes at the sustainability event. “It’s something most of us already do at home, and the amount of waste and the environmental impact we can avoid at the office if we pay attention to it is astounding.” From converting paper documents into digital ones, to developing a new paperless system for applications and payrolling processes, Monroe has taken the steps to “digitize” To set an even broader example, Monroe Personnel’s employees are included in the mix by offering Commuter Checks, pre-tax dollars used for public transportation. The employees can maximize the convenience and cost-saving benefits. Within their office in the Financial District, employees are encouraged to “bag lunch” it, which reduces on post-consumer package waste. And, why not? Their small kitchenette’ - Water flow has been minimized to curb wasteful flow. - Use of fluorescent light bulbs throughout the office suite. - Recyclables are separated from trash bins – aluminum, bottles, cardboard, compost bin, etc. - Printed collateral – letterheads, envelopes, business cards, etc. – are ordered in bulk supply to cut down on the frequency of orders and printing and are made of post-consumer material. - Disposable dishware have been eliminated from the break room.
