IRS Audits On The Rise

PR Log (Press Release) – Jun 09, 2009 – Recently, we are seeing an increased number of IRS audits.  IRS is currently auditing years 2005 through and including 2007.  The auditors are being extremely aggressive and are questioning the taxpayers with out offering you – the client or taxpayer – the right to representation  

I am currently working with an auditor who has told me IRS has hired over 3,000 new auditors to do nothing more than harass clients like you and myself.  The auditors are inexperienced which makes the audit even more difficult.  They are asking leading questions which have no relevance to impact of any numbers on the tax return.

The hot buttons are real estate professional audits.   The auditors are looking for your real estate professional logs.  Please make sure you are keeping these updated and if you have not already done so, make sure you create your log.

There are several items for you to keep in mind but most importantly, you have the right to be represented in an audit.  It is extremely important that you understand this fundamental right from the very onset of the audit.  Do not communicate with the auditor if you plan to hire someone to represent you in your audit.
