Green Junk Machine began when David Rodgers and Ian Rebello both became jobless in September of 2008 in the midst of a recession. The two recognized the increasing demand for decluttering homes and offices in San Diego county. The pair envisioned bringing a clean-cut, eco-friendly image to the junk removal industry by not only recycling a minimum of 60% of the items collected, but also by donating a portion of their revenue to local eco-conscious awareness groups and participating in local community clean ups.
"We’re recognized as the client-friendly, eco-conscious junk removal service,” said Rodgers, CEO of Green Junk Machine. “Professional, uniformed teams do all the labor and loading. Everything we haul away is properly recycled, disposed of or donated.”
After only 8 months, what began as 2 jobless guys and a pickup truck, has turned into 6 uniformed crew members, a website where clients can book online, and 2 large green dump trucks with decals of the company's logos.
"When I lost my job, I didn't know where to turn. We had both always wanted to start a business since high school, and figured why not now, " says Rodgers, " so we scraped up $30,000 maxing out credit cards and draining savings accounts to make this happen."
The company donates a portion of its gross revenue to I Love a Clean San Diego.
