The New Mom Expo being held at the Anaheim Convention Center, June 13-14, 2009 will be attended by Celia Navejas, a 6th grade student from Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. Celia will be signing copies of her new children's book, “Capitan Parchito and the Lost Treasure” along with illustrator and fellow student, Nelmy Perez.
In school, Celia struggled with reading and writing. After some heavy one-on-one tutoring sessions, she succeeded in writing her own short story and is now a published author; an accomplishment that would make any mother proud!
Red Ant Publishing, an independent book publisher of children’s books, released Celia’s story about a pirate addicted to treasure this month. For every 500 books sold, Red Ant will donate $100 to a scholarship fund in Celia's name for library supplies.
In support of the local students' accomplishment, KLR Productions, producer of the New Mom Expo, offered Red Ant Publishing a booth at the two-day event. Both author and illustrator will be available to sign copies of the book and answer questions from 12 to 5pm on Saturday and 2pm to 5pm on Sunday at the Red Ant Publishing booth (Booth Number 709)
