June 8, 2009 - PRLog -- Pittsburgh, PA -- The first annual FAIR PLAY fundraiser, with title sponsorship by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, will be held on Saturday July 11, 2009 at Emmerling Park in Indiana Township, PA from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Money raised from the event supports the Emma Bursick Memorial Fund.

Emma Bursick of Indiana Township died on July 14, 2008 at the age of 7 ½ from a fatal complication of epilepsy called SUDEP – Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy. As is the case with most SUDEP tragedies, Emma was a physically healthy child who died suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep. The cause of SUDEP is unknown, though it can occur in anyone with epilepsy.

In January 2009, the Bursick Family established the Emma Bursick Memorial Fund at the Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central PA (EFWCP) for the purpose of promoting SUDEP public awareness and research.

The FAIR PLAY event gives families access to a wide range of activities that include inflatables; games; arts and crafts; a balloon artist, a magician; dance and tumbling demonstrations; children’s music; a silent auction; and an opportunity to soak local teachers and coaches in a Power Shower. There will also be a separate specialty foods tent offering gluten-free and dairy-free food fare.

Tickets are $5 per person, children 2 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance via the event website at http://www.fairplay-event.org or on site the day of the event. Admission covers crafts, inflatables, and entertainment. Food, beverages, and tickets for games will also be available for purchase.

FAIR PLAY sponsors also include The Children’s Institute, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation, Alpine Pools, and the Rockwell family.  Additionally, many people have donated their time and talents to help make the event a success, including event host Larry Berger of the Saturday Light Brigade radio show; event planning consultant Shari Zatman of Perfectly Planned by Shari; graphics designer Liz Sabol of Synetex; Kelsey Friday and the Rest of the Week Band; the O’Steen School of Dance; Kindermusik by Lynda; Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do; and My Gym Children’s Fitness Center.
