Shehzad Khan, Mastermind behind the goldleafing studios
It all began 350 years ago, when Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur, brought some artisans from Ghor in Afghanistan, to ornate the Sheesh Mahal of Amber fort. These artisans introduced India with the art of gilding. They worked on heritage after heritage which includes palaces of old like Chandra Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Ramgarh Palace, Mysore Palace, Gwalior Palace and religious places like Swami Narayan Temples all over the world, Golden temple and ISKON temples. The artisans passed on their art from one generation to next and contributed in transforming the country with royal golden touch.
The art which started approximately 3 centuries ago has now become a passion for the Khan Brothers. Shehzad Khan, the eldest of the three brothers, an Interior Designer, under the guidance of his father Afzal Khan, has broadened the horizon of gilding in modern times. He introduced new forms of gilding that includes Copper, Champagne, Bronze Leafing and many more.
The art which was once known to be seen only in palaces and heritages is now made available to modern India by Shehzad Khan through The Gold leafing Studio. Shehzad has brought out this ancient art to various fields like Corporates, Hospitality Industry, Retail Outlets, Multiplexes and Shopping Malls. Their impressive clientele includes in the hotel industry – The Taj Mahal, The Oberoi, J.W. Marriot, The Orchid Ecotel, in corporate business houses – The Manikchand Office & Bungalow, Videocon Bungalow, in Retail sector –Ravissants, Splendour, Furniturewala, Bombay Electricals and in Residential bungalows of celebrities –Amitabh Bachahan’s Bungalow – “Prateeksha”
The Gold Leafing Studio formerly known as Pink City International, located at Jogeshwari Link Road, is the only one in the country. ‘The showroom was started with the objective of bringing ancient art to the modern India’ says Shezhad Khan, the mastermind behind The Gold Leafing Studio. The showroom celebrates its first anniversary.
