“In the order of good news, here’s a small business that’s viable, vital, agile, and sustaining itself, and has done so for the past two decades,” says AR/WS President William Tannenbaum, who co-founded the firm with Richard Ehrhardt and David W. Simmons, Jr, both retired.
Associated Right of Way Services, Inc., is a full-service real estate consulting firm specializing in improvement projects for public agencies, private companies, and non-profit organizations. AR/WS services include right of way planning, real estate appraisal, property acquisition, relocation assistance, and complete project management. Established in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1989, the company has grown to 33 employees with additional offices in Sacramento and Texas.
Tannenbaum credits the firm’s highly professional and experienced employees for the chemistry that is proving successful in an environment that’s challenging.
“Our company is largely energized by its interactive components; initiative, innovation, and agility have been core values of the company since we started,” says Tannenbaum. “When I come into the office on any given day, there can be a series of creative ideas regarding how to do our work better – a particular energy that comes from the invocation of different ideas that are constantly playing off one another.”
AR/WS was founded on the philosophy that the work it performs is important work, and that all members of the firm play critical and contributing roles in making AR/WS successful. “If you provide quality service and caring service, then you will do well,” says Tannenbaum, “and that pride of ownership and quality of service will carry you forward. After twenty years, there must be some worth in that philosophy because it seems to have worked for us, and for our clients, and for the public we serve.”
Most recently, AR/WS was named 2007 Employer of the Year by the International Right of Way Association, IRWA, the world leader in educational programs and resources for the right of way professional. AR/WS was honored for its contributions to advancing the right of way profession.
