Travellers looking to give something back can contribute to cultural heritage preservation projects at World Heritage sites in Kenya and Albania while traveling with Heritage Conservation Network next year.
HCN’s project in Lamu, Kenya, runs two weeks beginning February 7, 2010. Volunteers will help restore a historic coral rag structure and learn about other traditional, and fast disappearing, Swahili crafts.
In Albania, volunteers will be working with another traditional house form, the kullë, or tower, house in the World Heritage City of Gjirokastra. That project is scheduled for September 5-20, 2010.
Prices start at US$1050 per person per week, double occupancy, and include lodging, most meals, instructions, insurance and a contribution towards the cost of building materials and conservation work.
