In an effort to help minority and women-owned businesses thrive in New Jersey, Governor Jon Corzine signed Executive Order 34 in 2006, which established a Division of Minority and Women Business Development within the Department of the Treasury. Under this initiative, services and opportunities are created that serve to leverage the state's purchasing power to strengthen and expand the growth of the Small, Minority, and/or Women Business Enterprise community.
To meet the required criteria, a business must have management and daily business operations controlled by one or more minorities or women, is at least 51% owned by one or more minorities or women, and must demonstrate technical competence in the affairs of the business to satisfy the requirement for operational control.
